Feb. 24, 2021, 2:51 p.m.
On February 7, a new stream was launched at the School of Life Skills "Girl Power". The organizer of the project is the Blagomai Charitable Foundation. This school helps girls from family-type orphanages and from socially vulnerable families to improve their psychological and social knowledge.
"Girl Power" is not just a project, it is a real philosophy. This is a kind of motto for life, which will show our girls that they are not the "weaker sex". Girls are strong, they will be able to achieve anything they want. And most importantly, they should understand: no one has the right to insult them. You need to know how to protect yourself.
The team of the Blagomai Charitable Foundation has been thinking about the implementation of the plan for a long time. Initially, courses for girls were planned, gradually the idea was transformed into a project. Currently, the project is being implemented with the support of the Democracy Promotion Fund of the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine U.S. Embassy Kyiv Ukraine together with Tetyana Podobinska-Shtyk.
— We decided that it would be very useful for girls to know about their boundaries, their bodies, women's health, about gender equality, about combating violence, about the fact that they have the opportunity to get any education they want, how to build psychological boundaries. No one will tell them about these moments, says Kira Syrotenko.
“Girl Power” launched in September 2020. The pilot project included the involvement of girls aged 14-18 from orphanages and boarding schools in the Kyiv region. And already 40 female graduates have completed their studies within the framework of 6 modules. As one of the organizers, Tetyana Karapetyan, notes, the project will scale, because only thanks to online it is possible to attract more girls to education throughout Ukraine.
As already mentioned, the developed educational program consisted of 6 modules: "Reproductive health and sexual education", "The rights of girls and women in overcoming domestic violence", "Self-education. Increasing personal efficiency", "Role of women in society", "Development opportunities for girls in various fields and professions", "Leadership and career". Such topics are definitely not studied by children in schools, and even more so in boarding schools. Today, this is basic knowledge that every person will need.
Each module is taught by a competent speaker. During the final module of the stream, each participant receives a professional make-up and photo session as a gift.
The new stream of the Life Skills School “Girl Power” started on February 7. 20 teenage girls from family-type orphanages and from socially disadvantaged families are taking part in the training. The first topic of the module was "Self-education. Increasing personal efficiency". And experienced mentors shared not only information, but also their own experience of overcoming social and gender problems - Tetiana Karapetyan, co-founder of Blagomai BF, and art critic Tetiana Shatz, CEO of the ORMAN project.
So, the idea of the project is to improve the literacy of orphans and develop their personal qualities. The project is aimed at the development of social and psychological skills in girls. Therefore, the classes are about: gender equality, methods of combating violence, skills in choosing a profession and financial independence, protecting the rights of orphan girls. The project teaches to counteract negative social phenomena, such as: discrimination, abuse, violence. The classes allow girls to understand what opportunities they have and how they can protect themselves.
In the future, the Foundation plans to prepare the educational course program "School of Life Skills for Orphan Girls" as a training course for testing in other regions of Ukraine.
And you can join the development of this educational course. It is enough just to transfer a comfortable amount for you to the account of the "Girl Power" program through the website. You can learn more about the program and activities of the Foundation at the link: https://charitymay.com/
