10 March 2018 Visit organised by Blagomay to the Mishchenko family-style Children’s Home, Gorokhuvatka, Kyiv Region, Ukraine
Four volunteers took part in the visit: Danil Vseslavsky, Irina and Maria Andreeva (https://www.facebook.com/100011487186427), and Anzhelika Kalashnik (https://m.facebook.com/lilapriya108). Dmitry Ilnitsky, an independent volunteer, also visited the Children’s Home.
The kids met us with sincere smiles. As soon as we entered their home they began to give us their toys and introduce themselves to us.
We then led a master-class in mandala weaving. Each child made a wish and began weaving a ‘happiness’ mandala. Maria told the children the meaning of the colours which they had chosen for their creations.
When the mandalas were finished, Maria handed out chocolate figurines from the Lviv Chocolate Shop to the children, Anzhelika treated everyone to her home-made biscuits, and Irina also brought biscuits to the Home as well as toiletries for washing.
After that, the children, content and sated, sat around a table, and Anzhelika painted henna patterns on their hands. The girls asked for flowers, butterflies and hearts to be painted on their hands, and the boys asked for the logos of sports brands and cars.
The children cordially accompanied us back to our car and invited us to visit them again.
And the priest Sergei Alekseevich told stories about the children and thanked us for our kindness and help.
